Covid-19

[WICHITA, KS, September 9th, 2020] – Family Health and Rehabilitation has reported 5 cases of COVID-19 (four staff, one resident) at our facility. These cases were discovered after a staff member took a test for a college requirement (since recovered). The most recent testing conducted on 09/03/2020 had 100% negative results on all staff and residents. Results were reported to Kansas Department Health & Environment (KDHE), National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN), and Sedgwick County Health Department.

COVID-19 CLUSTER REPORTED AT FAMILY HEALTH AND REHABILITATION

Family’s top priority is the quality of care and safety of patients, residents and staff. All positive staff are not to report to work until they have quarantined for two weeks, show no symptoms for 72 hours, and met CDC requirements. The four positive staff members were asymptomatic.

Family has followed all Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and stayed up to date with numerous ongoing changes. This includes visitor restriction (except in compassionate care situations), screening staff members before each shift, proper hand hygiene, staff and residents wearing face coverings and residents being quarantined to their rooms. Additionally, the clinical team implemented infection control procedures that exceed those guidelines and received a zero-deficiency infection control survey from Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) prior to the cluster.

These limitations have been difficult for everyone involved. Staff is ensuring that while in-person visits are not allowed, residents can still connect with loved ones through scheduled window visits, phone calls, text chat, or video communication.

To contain the further spread of the virus, Family will continue to test and monitor patients, residents and staff.

Family Health and Rehab is working with KDHE and SCHD to stop the spread of the virus.
